Coir Board in, in collaboration with the All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram
Station is organizing a series of programme connected with Coir through "Akasavani"
stations in Kerala. The programme is entitled "Kayarintay karuthu- Naadinu
Ulkaruthu"('the strength of Coir - inner strength of the nation'). Prof.G Balachandran,
Coir Board Chairman, appealed to listeners to send in their responses on the programme.
This programme is being aired on Saturdays at 6.50 pm in twenty-five episodes
in "Vayalum Veedum" programme from 23rd June, 2012 and will conclude on 8th
December, 2012. The inaugural edition of the programme on 23rd June gave an overview
of the coir industry's tradition and the aim of the programme.
The topics being covered on subsequent Saturdays are: present and future of
coir industry on July 8th by Shri Anathalavattom Anandan followed by a programme on
transformation of Coir Industry from traditional to modernized sector.
There will be as a documentary on the Coir Research Institute at Kalavoor,
Alappuzha on 14th July and a programme on Coir Board’s Training programmes will be
aired on 21st, July. The need for diversification to revive the coir industry will be dealt
in the programme to be aired on 4th August. On October 20, the programme will be on
practical approach to coconut husk collection. A broadcast on export prospects for the
coir industry will be on August 11.
A programme on automatic spinning will be aired on 3rd November. This will
be followed by a programme on Coir Geotextiles. The episode on November 17 will be
focused on Coir Pith. The need for capturing the domestic market will be emphasised in
the programme to be aired on 23rd November. This will be followed by a programme on
Hindustan Coir Matting Factory of Coir Board.
The episodes from 28th July to 1st September will focus mainly on “International
Coir Tech Expo 2012” scheduled to be held from 12-16 August 2012 at Marine Drive
Kochi
A question-answer session will be aired after every four episodes of the
programme. Coir Board is planning to organize similar programmes in other Coir
producing States also, informed Shri Prof.G Balachandran, Chairman, Coir Board.
